Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams is calling for Jamaicans to get on board plans aimed at transforming the city, asserting that Kingston is in line for major infrastructural upgrade and a massive boost in economic growth.

Speaking at a Lions Club of Kingston Social Meeting today, Williams said persons have to come together and share in the vision.

"The vision is very clear; it is to transform the city beyond what now obtains. It is to make city Kingston the city of all the cities in the Caribbean and Latin America," he noted.

He said there are major plans to place Kingston, the largest city in the English-speaking Caribbean, on par with more socially advance urban spaces in the hemisphere.

Key components of the plan include the zoning of entertainment spaces, the creation of green spaces for recreation, transforming the Parade area in the downtown business district and restoring the historic Ward Theatre.

The Kingston mayor stated that to achieve these goals all must take a keen interest in finding solutions to issues that beset the city.

"I am urging everyone of us to take interest in caring for your city. This must be the start of transforming Kingston by leveraging what is already working for us through entertainment, arts and the creative expressions of its people," Williams stated.
