The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) will conduct a voting simulation exercise for registered electors in the Homestead division of St. Catherine South Central on Saturday, May 12.

The EOJ says the event will be held at the St. Catherine High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The exercise is aimed at demonstrating to electors how the Electronic Voter Identification System (EVIS) will be used in the May 18 by-election.

“The simulation exercise will give voters an opportunity to become familiar with the EVIS system by experiencing how their identity will be verified on Election Day using their fingerprint. It is expected to reduce apprehension toward the system and ensure a more efficient process on May 18,” the EOJ said.

“The exercise also allows Election Day Workers to practise using the system in an environment similar to Election Day. Through these exercises, the EOJ is also able to evaluate the performance of the EVIS system ahead of the election,” it further said.

In the meantime, the EOJ says preparation for the by-election is far advanced with all Election Day workers identified and trained and the necessary budget in place.
