Isolation Ward at Bustamante Hospital for Children focus of Labour Day project
Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams has indicated that the Kingston & St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) will be doing improvements to the Glen Owen Isolation Ward at the Bustamante Hospital for Children on May 23 for its 2018 Labour Day project.
"The Glen Owen Isolation Ward project is one of several that the KSAMC will be undertaking for Labour Day. We were made aware of the lack of proper facilities and structure there and decided that as a council, we can offer assistance," he said.
"The Glen Owen Ward currently lacks the necessary infrastructure to be an isolation ward in the true sense, and we are currently in discussions with private partners to see how best we can combine our efforts to make a difference for these children."
According to Williams, a team from the KSAMC is working closely with the staff and technical experts at the Bustamante Hospital for Children to see which elements of the project are priority.
"We want to fully isolate one section that generally handles serious cases that you would want to treat in a contained environment, installing air conditioned units as well as replacing windows and doors and providing a secure entrance to the ward," he added.
The city will also be engaging in other projects, including a beach clean-up at the waterfront, a Junior Council beautification project at the Breezy Castle roundabout, and continued improvement work at the Ward Theatre.
