Three Miles alternative route

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that the southbound lane of Marcus Garvey Drive, between Three Miles and Ashenheim Road, is to be closed. The closure, which comes into effect tomorrow, is to facilitate the laying of a new sewer main.

Manager of communication and customer services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says the work will be undertaken by the National Water Commission and forms part of the larger Hagley Park Road Improvement Project. The sewer works along this section of the roadway are scheduled to last for eight weeks.

As a result of the closure, there will be no direct access to Marcus Garvey Drive for motorists travelling from either sides of Spanish Town Road or Hagley Park Road. Traffic transiting through Three Miles, heading on to Marcus Garvey Drive should travel along Spanish Town Road (in the direction of downtown Kingston); turn on to Development Road, then on to Ashenheim Road and exit on to Marcus Garvey Drive in the vicinity of Pure National Ice Company. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Spanish Town Road and Development Road to assist with traffic flow. The new travel arrangement will function as a one-way route during the afternoon peak hours of 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to facilitate motorists travelling towards Portmore.

Traffic Delays

Shaw is reminding road users that the area continues to be an active work zone and traffic delays are likely to occur even with the changes.

Motorists and pedestrians are being advised to exercise extreme caution while traversing the construction zone and to obey the instructions of flag persons and the posted warning signs.
