JTA joins demand for increase in travel, upkeep allowances

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) it is in solidarity with the Jamaica Civil Service Association in its demand on the government to provide an offer to the relevant public servants, including teachers, for the long overdue increase in Travel and Upkeep Allowances.

The JTA says is astonished and disappointed that despite the almost weekly net increase in petrol prices, the government does not see it fit to treat this matter with alacrity.

The association contends that the absence of an increase in the allowances is negatively impacting these public servants carrying out their roles and responsibilities.

It says it views this matter as urgent, bearing in mind that it has been outstanding since April 1, 2017.

The JTA is urging the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service to act swiftly to resolve this matter in the interest of maintaining harmony across the public sector.
