PNP lauds Williams' victory

The People's National Party (PNP) has lauded Jamaica's World Under 20 sprint champion Briana Williams.

The 16-year-old won the 200 metres in a record 22.50 seconds today to complete the sprint double at the IAAF World Under 20 Championship in Finland.

PNP President Dr Peter Phillips said Williams joins an elite group of athletes who have completed the sprint double at the Under 20 Championship.S

"She joins a long and proud line of Jamaicans who have excelled in sports and have continued to maintain Jamaica’s dominance on the world map as a sprint nation," Phillips said in a statement today.

“Our athletes continue to do us proud on the world stage and exemplify our true potential as a nation of excellence," he added.

He said sports is one of the areas that "unify and energise us as a nation regardless of the challenges we face."
