Downtown Kingston children to get back-to-school help from lay magistrates

More than 500 children from downtown Kingston and its environs are expected to benefit from the Lay Magistrates' Association of Jamaica - Kingston Chapter and the Central Police Division's 'Back to school health and legal fair' scheduled for Saturday at the St William Grant Park.

"It is our desire to provide back-to-school supplies for upwards of 500 children; to provide various health checks for children and adults and to provide legal advice to adults," said Mark Gonzales, president of the Kingston Chapter.

He noted that one of the mandates of the Lay Magistrates' Association of Jamaica - Kingston Chapter, is to lend support to communities in Kingston, and they have undertaken many successful projects in collaboration with Kingston Central police.

"We also want to give all in attendance the opportunity to access the services of agencies such as Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency and the Registrar General's Department. Another exciting element of this event will be the presentation of scholarship cheques to three top GSAT students who live in downtown Kingston," added Gonzales.

He said the lay magistrates will also be partnering with Stewart's Auto Sales, the Kingston & St Andrew Municipal Corporation, the Ministry of Health's Kingston and St Andrew Health Department, and the Lions Club of St Andrew.
