Gleaner team among finalists in IAPA '2018 Excellence in Journalism' contest

The Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) last Friday announced the list of finalists in the contest that it holds each year to encourage excellence in journalism and the defence of freedom of expression in the Americas.

Marcel Granier, chairman of the IAPA's Awards Committee, declared, "The contest has a well-earned prestige and to qualify as a finalist is a great recognition and an incentive to continue in the search for new paths of professional excellence."

Granier said this year more than 1,000 entries were received. The final announcement of the winners and honourable mentions will be made in the coming days.

The Gleaner was nominated for its 'Mission: Clarendon Rescue', a special coverage of crime in the central Jamaica parish done in January 2017. This was the only entry from Jamaica named among the finalists.
