Business leader William McConnell dies

Business leader William McConnell has died.

McConnell, the former group managing director of Lascelles deMercado, was a member of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) Hall of Fame.

He also worked at Wray & Nephew for more than 40 years where he also served as managing director. Opposition Leader Peter Phillips issued issued a statement saying he is saddened by the passing.

He said Mr McConnell’s remarkable contribution to the development of the nation's business sector is well recognised and that he has given outstanding service to the country through the private sector, in particular through companies such as Lascelles de Mercado Ltd and J Wray and Nephew.

"Mr McConnell was instrumental in several major initiatives which promoted the interests of not only the membership, but assisted many other sectors towards national advancement," said Phillips.
