St Ann councillor completes Legacy Project

Councillor for the Lime Hall division in the St Ann Municipal Corporation, Genevor Gordon Bailey, has completed the construction of restroom facilities at the Steer Town playing field as her $1.3 million Legacy Project.

The corporation has mandated each of the 16 councillors in the parish to identify and complete a project within their division to be known as their Legacy Project and has made available funding to complete same.

The male section consists of a toilet, a urinal, and a face basin, while the female section has a toilet and face basin with a mirror still to be installed. A table and chair have been added on the outside as part of the project.

When additional funding is available, showers will be built.

Each month, two councillors are given funds to work on their project. Gordon Bailey received her allocation in May and completed the project in just two months. It is yet to be opened for use.

"Why I chose that project is because I have to think of what's happening within the community, and we know we have had an upsurge of violence for years, so now that we've had a decline in that, we see where the community needs places where people can go and hang out," Gordon Bailey told The Gleaner.

The project has been completed at the right time as the councillor has said that the nearby Steer Town Academy would be using the field as its home ground in sports competitions.
