Cop faces second murder trial on Monday

Another of the so-called Police Death Squad cases is set to go to trial in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston on Monday.

Constable Collis ‘Chucky’ Brown, who is assigned to the Clarendon Police Division, is scheduled to face the court on three counts of murder.

The charges stem from separate incidents in 2009 and 2012 in which Damoy Dawkins, Dwayne Douglas and Andrew Fearon were shot and killed.

However, an attorney for Brown indicated today that he plans to file an application in court on Monday to have the cases separated.

This is also the second trial involving Brown, who has been in custody since 2014 when he and ten other policemen from the Clarendon Division were arrested following a probe by the Independent Commission of Investigations.

Last March, a seven-member jury found Brown and Corporal Roan Morrison not guilty of murder arising from the fatal shooting of Phaebian Dinal in the first so-called death squad trial.
