Massive church parade receives police backing

The police are assuring citizens that their safety will be priority at the massive Jesus in the City church parade, scheduled for today.
And with so much road work throughout the Corporate Area already causing traffic pile-ups in some areas, lawmen will be out in their numbers to ensure that there is as little disruptions to traffic as possible.
Head of the Corporate Communications Unit Dahlia Garrick, highlighted that Commissioner of Police Antony Anderson is in full support of the event.
"I can tell you that from the commissioner's standpoint, and from a Jamaica Constabulary Force standpoint, anything that goes towards enhancing peace and harmony and bringing together a sense of love and kindness is endorsed by the JCF and has our full support."
Partnership opportunity
She continued: "This is another opportunity to partner with the Church to help create whatever interventions we can to sum up the situations that face our countrymen. We are showing the necessary support to ensure the march progresses smoothly and that all are taken into consideration and comply with the instructions of the police."
The parade is slated to begin at midday and "will span the police divisions of St Andrew South, Kingston West and Kingston Central". Brotherton Avenue off Waltham Park Road and the Total gas station in the vicinity of Heroes Circle are the two starting points for the march.
The procession will stop in various hotspot community where prayer and praise will be offered. Following the march, a massive gathering is expected to take to the waterfront for a gospel concert at around 4 p.m.
The Ocean Boulevard intersection with West Street and Orange Street will be blocked between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. to facilitate the concert. Orange Street will be converted to two-way traffic in the vicinity of Port Royal Street and Ocean Boulevard to facilitate motorists headed for ocean Towers.
