Redemption and second chances after divorce - Part 2

Women aren’t the only ones suffering in silence as a result of the shame and pain of toxic marriages void of love and compassion, or the torments that comes after divorce. Men too, are dealing with navigating this painful terrain.

Ask Dexter Scott, for instance. He will tell you, especially of the limited access he had to his daughter following a bitter divorce.

“How do you learn to love a child who’s not your biological child, when you can’t even show love to your own? This happened to me. Through a horrible divorce, to the broken system of not being able to consistently see your child, I had to learn how to endure this!

“Little did I know God had another plan. He brought to me an awesome woman and her five-year-old daughter and I learned to love from another vantage point. We fought through the pain, trials and tribulations and now, you would never know we are a blended family,” Scott said.

Dexter’s was also a story of redemption and second chances to his now wife, Tonya Joyner-Scott, who was, at the time, also enduring a painful separation, but by sudden death — leaving her a single mom of a five-year-old girl.

This too, can cause equally as much suffering as divorce.

Tonya and Dexter, who later met and got married, also overcame reports from doctors about infertility and years after being married, had two children in their union.

The two are stars of their Dish Network television show, “The Upgraders” and lead a multi-million-dollar Organisation. They are also well respected in ministry and are well known for their expertise on topics pertaining to mindset, marriage, ministry and marketplace.

Senior pastor and government consultant, Dr. Ian Edwards, also has his own experience with loss from divorce and later, major redemption with his wife, Nicola Edwards, and their now beautifully blended family.

When asked about his thoughts on second chances after divorce or devastating marriages, he said: “Chance has a lot to do with choice. When two people decided to give their marriage, or another marriage, a second chance, it’s a choice to not just be in the marriage but to choose to be better as an individual and help their partner to also be their best.”

Dr. Edwards and his wife are senior pastors at The Church at Bowie and Winning Souls International, two thriving churches in Maryland, in the United States. They are also successful in the careers outside of ministry and are very involved in the development of their communities.

The contributors, who will be speaking at the Accelerating Your Vision Master Class, today and tomorrow (Oct 27 & 28), all agreed that second chances are indeed possible and with proper time to heal and re-centre yourself around your purpose, your life will expand and continue to create circumstances for that purpose to come to pass.

The conference will be held at the Jamaica Conference Centre and will feature talks on marriage, mindset, money, and market place.
