Policeman among four caught with drugs, arrested

Four men, including a policeman, have been arrested for allegedly breaching the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The unidentified police corporal was reportedly caught on Friday by Narcotics police in Porus, Manchester with one kilogramme of cocaine and $1 million in cash.

The policeman was reportedly travelling in a Toyota motor car with another man about 4:20 p.m. when it was intercepted, searched and the drugs along with cash found.

Both men were subsequently taken into custody. Their identities, according to the police, are being withheld pending further investigations.

In the second incident, also on Friday, a team from the Narcotics Police Division arrested and charged two men at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James for attempting to export cocaine.

They are: 47-year-old Nigel Barham, businessman of Nain district, St Elizabeth and 52-year-old Dennis Daley, farmer of Myersville district, also in the parish.

Police say the drug weighed approximately 4.5 pounds, and has an estimated street value of about $2.2 million.

The men were subsequently charged with Possession of Cocaine, Dealing in Cocaine, Attempting to Export Cocaine and Conspiracy to Export Cocaine.

They are scheduled to appear before the St James Parish Court on Thursday.
