Clarendon church seeks support for 15th annual treat
FREE TOWN, Clarendon:
The Free Town Church of God of Prophecy Outreach Foundation will on December 21 host its 15th annual treat for the children of the church and its environs.
This year, the church has teamed up with the County Line Worship Center in West Palm, Florida, and Nasshard Thompson Charity from Bridgeport, Connecticut, with both entities steering a toy drive for the foundation.
Director of the foundation and pastor for the church, Zebulah Aiken, said it still remains an uphill task each year to coordinate. However, she noted that the smiles on the children's faces make it all worth it.
Aiken said she is overwhelmed by the support she has been receiving from County Line and Thompson's charity.
"Nasshard is just 10 years old and she started her charity at the age of seven. She seems mature beyond her years as she identifies with the needs of not just children, but adults as well," Aiken shared, adding that the youngster readily signed on when she heard about the drive.
Aiken is also giving thanks for those she refers to as "year-to-year faithfuls". She said from almost year one, they have been on board and has stayed in the church's corner since.
"The Turners - Anthony and Althea, Rula Brown, JW Production and Gospel Vibes Production ... we thank them," she said, adding that this year she is looking for more entities to come on stream to ensure the children are fÍted and entertained.
Aiken said plans are well under way to make the 15th staging of the event a special one.
"It will be more than just giving toys and having rides, we are hoping to stage some fun competitions with attractive prizes. It will be a day with emphasis placed on fun fellowship and worship," she said.
The foundation was created as an outlet for the Miracle Tabernacle Free Town Church of God of Prophecy to deliver more tangible service to those in the church and the community at large.
Toys can be contributed at County Line Worship Center, 4065 SW, 40th Avenue, West Park, Florida, or Lovely Boutique and Beauty Supply, 2056 Main Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut, by December 3.
