PAC chairman requests urgent meeting over PCJ, Petrojam audits

Chairman of Parliament's Public Accounts Committee Mark Golding has requested an urgent meeting of members to discuss the findings of an audit of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica  (PCJ) and its subsidiary, Petrojam.

The request was made in a letter dispatched to the Parliament Wednesday afternoon.

"The Auditor General's reports on Petrojam and the PCJ contain very serious allegations which the Public Accounts Committee needs to review as a matter of urgency," read a section of the letter.

Golding, in the missive, requested that the meeting be scheduled for next Tuesday.

"If another committee meeting has been scheduled for that time, I would wish to ask that committee to reschedule so as to allow our meeting to go ahead," the letter said.

The audit, which was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, among other things details explicit acts of cronyism, breaches of the government's procurement guidelines and how Petrojam spent US$21,000 or J$2.6 million for two 'surprise' parties for then energy minister Dr Andrew Wheatley and Perceval Bahado-Singh, the entity's former chairman.
