Always aim to be the best - Floyd Green

Floyd Green, state minister in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, is urging the recent graduates of the Career Advancement Programme (CAP) not to be satisfied with just their current qualification, but to keep striving for higher education.

"My first message to you is do not stop here. CAP is a small part of the journey," said Green, while speaking at Thursday's ceremony for the presentation of graduates at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James, where approximately 3,000 students received their certificates after successfully completing their National Vocational, Qualification of Jamaica, Caribbean Vocational Qualification, and City and Guilds courses.

"I would say to you now, if you are doing a skill area, you are putting yourself ahead of the pack, and that is the reality. You must take the next step because at one time, you couldn't find people with Level Two. Now they are everywhere," said Green. "You have to go further, you have to get your associate degree. You can move on and get your degree. Move from Level Two up to Level Four and Five because you must be the best in your area."

He added: "Some of us are dreaming, but our dreams are too small, our dream is too parochial. You must have big dreams. You must not confine yourself. You must just not just think about how you want to be the best in your household, you must want to be the best in your community, the best in your parish, the country, and the world."
