Lasco principal, teacher of year awarded

It was difficult for supporters to compose themselves after Margaret Campbell, principal of St. George's College, was named the Lasco/Ministry of Education, Youth and Information Principal of the Year.
It was a similar reaction for Amorkard Brown, a teacher at Munro College in St Elizabeth, who was announced as Teacher of the Year, at the awards ceremony which was held this morning at the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
Campbell, who became the first female principal at the then all-boys institution in 2006, said while she appreciates the recognition, her work has never been about accolades.
She shared that her focus will be on improving mathematics education, engaging males to perform better and a renewed focus on children who are deaf.
She noted, too, that despite the challenges which she has faced as an educator, she would do it all over again.
For Brown, he recalled the days when he accompanied his mother to the market in order to fund his education.
He said he intends to mentor young teachers and implement programmes which will boost climate resilience.
