I am promising Hanover a safe Christmas - Beeput

With just under three weeks to go in the year, Superintendent Sharon Beeput, the commanding officer for Hanover, has said she is extremely confident that the relative peace in the parish will continue through the Christmas season and into the new year.

"We have developed our security plan for the Christmas season, and we are extremely confident that we will be able to give residents a safe and peaceful Christmas," said Beeput. "In fact, we expect to see these measures holding strong going into the new year."

At the start of the year, Hanover was all but besieged by criminals, including lottery scammers, who were fleeing the state of public emergency in St James. However, through strong policing, they were not allowed to establish firm roots, as many were scooped up in police operations while others fled.

"We have a strong resolve to make this parish unattractive to migrating criminals," said Beeput. "Once they come here, they will quickly realise that they are not welcome."

In the past five months, the Hanover police have arrested over 40 scammers. To date, some 27, including several with St James addresses, have been convicted between the Hanover Parish Court and the Hanover Circuit Court.

"We are enjoying almost 100 per cent conviction rate against the scammers because we taking the time to prepare the cases properly before we put them before the court," said Beeput.
