The community of Bailey's Vale in St Mary is in mourning following the stabbing death of a businessman yesterday.

Dead is 50-year-old grocery store operator Paul Mitchell.

The police report that family and friends went to the house of the businessman, after he was not seen at his grocery shop.

Upon entering a room occupied by him, they discovered a trail of blood leading to a bed, where his body was found covered in blood.

The police were called and, upon close examination, several stab wounds were observed to the chest, neck, and back.
He was pronounced dead by a doctor.

The police have theorised that Mitchell was killed about 1:30 a.m. by unknown assailants, who also robbed him of a substantial amount of money.

This is based on the account of family and friends who told the police that the businessman had earlier collected a large amount of cash during a sales transaction. But during search of the room, the money was not found.

Thirty-five persons were killed in St Mary 2018, compared to 22 in 2017.
