Latest police stats show spike in murders for St James after SOE

The parish of St James is experiencing a spike in murders following the lifting of the State of Emergency (SOE), according to the latest police figures.
Forty eight persons have been killed in the western parish since the start of the year, compared to 29 over the same period a year ago when the SOE was in place.
It is followed by St Andrew South and Westmoreland with 43 each, St Catherine South with 40 and Clarendon and St Andrew Central police divisions with 37 each.
This is in contrast to the overall figures for the island, which are showing a reduction in the number of persons killed for 2019.
The statistics compiled by the police show that 406 persons were killed between January 1 and the first two weeks of April. This is compared to 447 for the similar period in 2018.
However, shootings have increased with 413 cases being reported up to last Saturday, compared to 394 for the similar period last year.
