RUBiS facilitates health fair for downtown residents
Residents of Water Lane and surrounding areas in downtown Kingston in proximity to the RUBiS Water Lane Service Station benefited from a host of free medical, dental, and social services during RUBiS’ community health fair recently.
The community health fair was part of RUBiS’ objective to be socially responsible by positively impacting the environment and ultimately the lives of the citizens of the communities in which it operates and to promote the health and wellness of Jamaicans.
CEO of RUBiS, Alain Carreau, said the company was delighted with the show of support from residents from the community who came out to access the free services, which also included a children’s playground and special care packages for all who attended.
“We are just happy to welcome and thank everyone who came out. We see and we understand that not everybody in life has had the same opportunity. Some people will struggle to see the doctor, to get blood tests, sugar tests, lipid tests, cholesterol tests, and to get dental checks. This initiative has significantly helped to provide access to health services for many from our local community.”
A number of healthcare services and government agencies threw their support behind the RUBiS-led initiative. A variety of health checks were provided by Sagicor, the Heart Foundation of Jamaica, Dent-Care Smile Clinic, Dr Paul Wright, and the National Health Fund. The Registrar General’s Department was on hand to assist persons with securing birth, death, and marriage certificates.
Meanwhile, residents were also treated to refreshments from a number of other corporate partners, such as Wisynco, Happy Ice, Facey Commodity, Grace Foods, and Honey Bun. The petroleum-marketing company also provided entertainment options for adults and children.
Kudos to Rubis
Grace Foods, whose head offices are a stone’s throw away from on Harbour Street in downtown Kingston, also contributed food items to the care packages and provided snacks for the community members. The company’s CEO for its Domestic Foods Division, Frank James, in his address, lauded RUBiS for its support of the residents of downtown Kingston.
“We are very pleased that an event like this is coming to serve the people of the downtown area. We also want to congratulate RUBiS on their success and all that they’ve been doing. RUBiS has been a partner of GraceKennedy for many years in many different areas of our business. We are pleased with the turnout, and so many persons have benefited from the services being provided. We look forward to partnering with RUBiS on many other efforts to come,” he said.
Bruno Pouezat, United Nations regional coordinator’ also came out in support of RUBiS’ efforts to assist the community members.
RUBiS is also working to promote skills and capacity building among individuals and young people through its various corporate social responsibility initiatives.
