St Jago High School suspends classes after canteen fire
The St Jago High School in Spanish Town, St Catherine has suspended regular classes for Wednesday following a fire earlier today.
However, students sitting CSEC and CAPE papers should attend school.
The Spanish Town Fire Department said the blaze was confined to the roof of the school’s canteen.
Firefighters received the call about the fire 2:04 p.m.
“Because of the quick response and the quick action, it did not spread across and cause much damage and we were able to stop what could have been a disaster,” said Deputy Superintendent Patrick Callum.
Callum said there were no injuries, however, one student reportedly had a panic attack.
He said the child was treated by emergency personnel on site.
