It was Teachers’ Day yesterday and students showered their educators with gifts and words of appreciation.

In the past few days, some students have also been detailing their affection through The Gleaner’s ‘Terrific Teacher’ promotion.

Here are some of the letters written to teachers through the promotion:

To: Mrs. Lotoya Weddas-Mattison

School: Mom’s Love Early Childhood Development Centre

From: Suri Thomas

My teacher is terrific because she:

Sings with us

Smiles with us

Plays with us

Prays for us

To: Mrs Christina Miller

School: Mineral Heights Primary School

From: Lacey-Ann Nevers

I am writing this letter to highlight why my teacher is terrific. Mrs Miller is terrific because she is very creative and makes learning very fun. The second reason is that she is strict, but it is just tough love as she wants the whole class to learn. She is kind, totally awesome and talented. I wish you would find it in your heart to place us first, because my teacher deserves it. She has been teaching grades one, three, four, five, and six for 21 years!

To: Miss Nicole Parkins

School: Tomlinson Christian Academy

From: Bryshaun Chin

My teacher is awesome. She makes us safe and wants us to get smart. God made teachers for a reason, so we can get a good education and a smart brain. My teacher is kind, sweet and loving. She loves you, too. When school is over we can play around. Remember, God made teachers. Have a nice day and God bless.

To: Miss Viviene Shand

School: St Jude’s Preparatory School

From: Johnathan Lewars

My teacher is terrific because she helps us to read.

Miss, you put us in groups one, two and three to read, and you get us smarter and smarter and smarter. The children who could not read, you helped them. They can now read. You make us pray in the mornings. You make us pray in the afternoon before we leave school and you teach us good manners. My behaviour has improved because of you. You help us with our lunch and you are my school mother. God bless you.

To: Miss Sharla Valentine

School: Donald Quarrie High

From: Sigouney Francis

Dear Miss Valentine,

I would like to use this opportunity to express my emotions and thoughts towards you. The reason I selected you to be the best of the rest is due to your sweet, pleasant, independent and outstanding performance. Every time I see you, I feel loved and wanted. Your smile attracts students around you. Since I’ve known you, you are always happy and smiling, and this creates a feeling of joy and happiness in me. You are like a sweet fragrance that attracts a bee. Your smile is as bright as the sun and you glow like a star on a dark night. Your voice is like a melody that echoes in silence. You are calm, smart and intelligent, but most of all helpful. There is never a dull moment around you. I have never heard anything harsh said from your mouth and you care about us as if we were your biological children. You are my role model; in the future I would like to be like you: smart, kind, and beautiful. You give me reason to express myself and be happy, and I just want to say thank you and I love you.
