LASCO Distributors Limited delivered on its promise to make learning fun and engaging for students at St Andrew Preparatory School with the kick-off of its Read Across Jamaica Day and Education Week of activities, through its partnership with the SunCity ‘Read and Win’ School Tour on Tuesday.

“LASCO is working to chart a healthier, positive future for our country’s youth. We saw the opportunity and the need to partner with SunCity to reinforce the importance of starting your day with a nutritious meal as part of a holistic approach to literacy and greater success in schools,” explained Kari Steele, LASCO Food Drink brand manager.

To encourage and empower students to be better informed about the impact good nutrition has on the overall learning experience, LASCO engaged students from grades four to six in an exciting morning of activities with samplings of the wide range of nutritious breakfast products, including LASCO Food Drink and LASCO Cornflakes.

Dr Andre Dyer, principal for St Andrew Preparatory School, in supporting the initiative noted, “A healthy meal is a key contributor to the learning process, and we are happy that LASCO has come on board to reinforce the message that good nutrition plays a significant part in the learning process. We are very big on differentiation at St Andrew Prep; and we’ve found that by incorporating the sensory skills of our students, we have been able to make learning fun and hone their skills.”

The grade-six students were also encouraged to take part in an interactive personal hygiene workshop as part of LASCO’s holistic approach to literacy. The interactive session also addressed menstruation care and wellness for the young girls.

“In partnership with SunCity Read and Win School Tour, LASCO’s Oral Care encourages kids to practise proper oral hygiene. It is important to instill the virtues of proper oral hygiene from early as part of establishing self-confidence. Our oral care line offers a toothpaste that every member of the family can love. We have to engage our youth at all levels to make learning fun and applicable to every lifestyle,” said Renee Rose, LASCO Distributors brand manager for oral care.

Students can join in the fun of learning with LASCO on the tour today at St Richards Primary; May 14 at Gregory Park Primary; Wednesday, May 15, at Waterford Primary; May 17 at Jericho Primary; Tuesday, May 21, at Meadowbrook Preparatory; Tuesday, May 28, at St John the Baptist Preparatory; and May 31 at Rousseau Primary. The grand final will take place on June 1 at Buzzers, Portmore.
