Although they came out in their numbers, donning the colours of their respective political parties, residents of Seaforth in St Thomas, were extremely cautious, as they turned up to polling stations this morning amid the rising coronavirus cases in the parish.

The community was one of five that were releived from quarantine restrictions on the eve of the elections.

And though they are cheerful, the residents kept their physical distance as best as they could, as they gathered outside of Seaforth Primary School.

"I have not been close to anyone from morning because I don't think they should have this election. But I had to come out because the Government not doing the right thing, so we have to vote them out," Danny Thomas said.

As of yesterday, 268 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in St Thomas.

Chrystal Burke, who described herself as the diehard Jamaica Labour Party supporter, expressed delight to be able to come out and vote.

"I feel good that I was able to come out and because we were lockdown for two weeks. The Government had to do what was necessary because we have never seen anything like this virus," she reasoned.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Garfield Williams told The Gleaner that the voters have been complying with the social distancing rules, even though the news team witnessed him reprimanding one man for not wearing a mask.

"He is the only one who I had to talk to so for. It has been smooth so far and they have been trying their best to keep their distance, " Williams said.
