USA TODAY has reported that three Americans were found dead yesterday at a Sandals resort in The Bahamas. A fourth person was hospitalised.

It is unclear how they died.

A release from the Royal Bahamas Police said an autopsy is to be conducted on the bodies to determine the cause of death. The release did not make mention of a fourth victim.

The police did not name the accommodation where the bodies where the incident took place either, but it noted that it happened on the island of Exuma. It said the bodies discovered were of two Caucasian males and a Caucasian female.

According to the police, staff at the accommodation found the bodies. They first found the body of one of the men in a villa, and then the body of the other man and woman, who were identified as a couple, in a second villa. The police said they were called to the scene about 9:00 a.m. yesterday.

They said the bodies showed no signs of trauma. They reported, however, that the couple had complained of feeling ill the previous evening and had sought treatment at a medical facility and returned to their villa.

The identities of the deceased guests have not yet been confirmed.  The case has been presented to the coroner.

USA TODAY reported that Sandals had confirmed the deaths, which occurred at its Emerald Bay resort on Great Exuma.

“It is with deep sadness that we can confirm the passing of three guests at Sandals Emerald Bay on May 6, 2022," Stacy Royal, a spokesperson for Sandals, said via a statement. "A health emergency was initially reported and following our protocols we immediately alerted emergency medical professionals and relevant local authorities."
