Gospel artiste Prodigal Son to release tell-all book about his life
AS A youngster, Calvin Whilby got caught up with the wrong crowd and became a member of a gang. But, as fate would have it, in 1998, he decided to turn his life around and give his life to Christ.
In 1999, he made his recording gospel début as Prodigal Son and hasn’t looked back since.
This year, Prodigal Son marks his 25th anniversary in gospel music and, to mark the milestone, he will release a number of projects, including a tell-all book.
The book, according to Prodigal Son, will be a no-holds-bar read, and will chronicle his life, journey and music.
“The book is about my life, music and journey. The title of the book is The Blaak Sheep, and we are looking at releasing it very soon,” he noted in a release.
He continued, “I was living in Rema and I was involved in gang life and a lot happened which will be documented in the tell-all book.”
Prodigal Son says his journey as a Christian has been bittersweet.
“I experienced the typical ghetto youth life, fighting to be something and someone better than what they said we would be. I believe that my life experiences and moving into a life of serving Christ is an inspiration to others. Since becoming a born-again Christian, the journey for me has been bittersweet and what’s important is to keep doing the good that you can for as long as you can.”
“My challenges are many and continue to pile up. The greatest challenge is to continue challenging myself to keep walking. I have had the closest people to me and gospel, blacklist me, take food out of my children’s mouth, downright just hate me for being great. The list is long that will be explained in the book.”
Prodigal Son, who currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, is best known for the hit songs I Wish, Woe, Radikal Style, Jesus Bigger, Catch a Fire, Journey, Still Standing, and Head Caan Hot Suh.
