Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says The Pinnacle’s mixed-tourism approach will enable the sector to make a demonstrable statement to the Middle East in the competition for global tourism dollars.

“Building these four towers, 28 storeys, is beginning to make a statement to the Middle East that Jamaica is getting ready,” Bartlett said, referencing the US$350 million investment to construct The Pinnacle housing development in Montego Bay, St James, over the next four years.

“We spent a lot of time talking to the guys in Dubai, and suddenly ,they are going to be looking at us because we are going to be looking like them,” the tourism minister said.

Dubai is known for its skyscrapers and cafés among a variety of attractions, including the Dubai Mall and the Dubai Foundation.

The Pinnacle is a luxury, private community that is being developed on the Montego Bay Marine Reserve, consisting of four separate towers, each with 28 storeys and a panoramic view.

Besides 15 luxury villas, sports and leisure facilities, shopping areas and restaurants, the development also includes a private residents’ club, which is being spearheaded by LCH Developments and designed by Issia Madden, a Montego Bay-based architect.

A NEW DOOR

According to Bartlett, this particular product opens a new door as it relates to city tourism, pointing out that Montego Bay has traditionally been known as a resort town and that the time has come for it to be elevated to another dimension.

With this development, Bartlett said the country would have a better understanding of the importance of a tourism-supply chain.

“And with this kind of density that is approaching from a 28-storey building with a mixed business model comes the new model of the period as tourism tries to balance short-term, medium-term , and long-term residency with the important elements of supplies,” he stated.

“What we will have here is a mix of residential short-term visitors and commercial activities, and so we are beginning to understand the importance of the supply chain as a critical part of the matrix of tourism,” he added.

The minister also expressed his appreciation to the developers for its unique location, noting that it would be the place of choice when completed.

“I want to indicate with particular delight that LCH Developers has chosen Montego Bay to become the first of its incursions in the tourism industry. And what an incursion it is, providing for us something that is being called The Pinnacle, the address that we will now address in the future,” he said while sharing that this development, along with others to come over the next five years, represents an investment portfolio valued at approximately US$2 billion.
