Councillor for the Guy's Hill Division in St Catherine, Leroy Dunn, says he will be running as an independent candidate in the upcoming local government elections.

Dunn, who was elected on a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) ticket in November 2016, is being replaced by Joseph Johnson as the party's representative in the division.

However, the first-term councillor says he still desires to serve the division as he has done for the last seven years.

"I have received a response to my resignation letter from the JLP, as a member and as chairman of the Guy's Hill  Division," Dunn said.

"It is clear that I still enjoy the support of the delegates, therefore...I will be going to the poll in the election as an independent candidate in the upcoming election, which is constitutionally due next month," the councillor added.

The People's National Party's Winston Chambers is also set to contest the division.
