Clarks Town in Trelawny is set to be transformed into a 'city', Prime Minister Andrew Holness has stated.

He made the statement at a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) meeting held in the rural district on Saturday night.

"All the youths in the area. Those who have graduated from school, those who have graduated a little while ago, they don't have to run from Clarks Town. They can make Clarks Town into their own little city. That's the idea," Holness stated.

He noted that this year the Government will break ground for 1,000 hotel rooms at Harmony Cove, while the RIU hotel will soon complete another 300 rooms.

"The workers in these hotels are going to need places to live, so this is how this Government plans to address this need. In this year, 2024, the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) will break ground at Panarsus in Clarks Town to construct 720 Housing Units," Holness announced.

The Prime Minister explained how the building of the 720 units will transform Clarks  Town.

"With more people coming to live in the area there is going to be opportunities to build more supermarkets, open new service oriented businesses and generally expand the services now offered in the town. Do not forget the job opportunities that this transformation will provide."

Turning to the provision of proper roads the prime minister said, "I drove on some of the roads today and I agree they need fixing. This government has identified $40 billion for road repair. I can promise you this, some of that money will be used to fix some of the roads in Trelawny."
