Alligator Pond, Manchester:

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that Alligator Pond, Manchester, is to be developed as a tourism destination.

“We want to develop a new industry in Alligator Pond, and the entire south coast has great potential for tourism,” Holness said.

Responding to the suggestion of a hotel, Holness redirected the focus, emphasising a new approach to tourism development.

“Not every tourism area has hotels. We want tourists to spend their money with the local people, experiencing the authentic life of Alligator Pond,” he explained.

Holness disclosed that a proposal had been submitted to the Tourism Enhancement Fund by the local member of parliament to develop a proper beach in Alligator Pond. Reassuring the crowd, he stated, “The proposals have been reviewed, funding is being sourced, and it will be done very shortly.”

Holness said that plans to develop attractions in and around the area, with a focus to develop the culinary industry.

“Food is a big attraction in tourism, and we’re going to develop that right here – showcasing our fish, how we prepare it, and all the other unique aspects,” he said.

Holness underscored the economic impact of these developments, assuring the crowd of new sources of income and employment opportunities. “This will regenerate and develop your local township,” he said.
