Lewis is on a quest to serve
Buff Bay, West Portland
First-time candidate 52-year-old Desmond Lewis, who is a home-town boy, is seeking to turn the tables on the incumbent, Dion Hunter of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), who has been at the helm in the Buff Bay division since 2016.
Lewis, who attended Buff Bay primary and Windsor Castle All-Age, then St Andrew Technical High School, says his decision to enter representational politics was influenced by the lack of opportunity for the youth and other people in general in the Buff Bay division.
“I urge the people of this division to vote for the People’s National Party, as it is the party of choice and it is the party that truly believes in representing people at the local and community level,” Lewis said.
“To ensure that we have a better Jamaica, we need to establish a platform that will enhance the local governance structure, because the development of the local economy is the development of the national economy. But we have to start at the local level. And that is why I know that the People’s National Party is the party of choice to adequately deal with local governance issue,” he concluded.
Lewis has admitted that the political landscape is quite challenging, but he was quick to point out that his passion to serve the people of Buff Bay is a priority. He says, too, that he has put in a lot of work, which should guarantee him success on February 26.
