#JAVOTES2024 | Little voting, no incident in South East St Ann
Police in South East St Ann say today's local government voting has been quiet and void of any negative incidents so far.
Under partially cloudy conditions, the turnout remained low in the constituency up to 12:30 p.m. as seen in the Bensonton division.
At the lone polling station in Pedro, located at the Pedro Methodist Church, 50 of 215 electors on the voters' list had voted up to 12:30 p.m.
At the Bensonton Primary School, an elderly couple was among the few people who voted while The Gleaner was at the location as polling day workers had little to do.
At another location, Harmony Vale, where voting was taking place at the Baptist Church, where former councillor for the Bensonton division, Lydia Richards, was scheduled to vote, a trickle of supporters from both the PNP and the JLP were seen casting their votes.
Richards opted to contest the election as an independent candidate after being replaced by the PNP.
She could not be reached for comments, neither could the PNP candidate Clovis Gohagen, nor Maxine Simpson for the JLP.
The Bensonton division has been a PNP stronghold for decades.
