Firefighters responding to a fire at Petrojam on March 5.

Petrojam says thorough assessments are to be undertaken to determine the extent of the damage caused by a fire today at its Marcus Garvey Drive plant.

The state-owned oil refinery said the blaze started shortly after 7 p.m. and that its team acted swiftly to initiate emergency protocols and successfully brought the situation under control.

No injuries were reported.

“To ensure the safety of our personnel and prevent further escalation, we have made the decision to temporarily take the affected plant offline,” said Petrojam in a statement.

“Cooling operations are currently underway to expedite the process and restore normalcy as soon as possible,” it added.

Addressing concerns about supplying the public, Petrojam noted that it maintains a substantial reserve of products ensuring an uninterrupted supply to meet market demands.

“As investigations continue and damage assessments progress, we will provide timely updates to keep our stakeholders informed.”
