The Portland police are appealing for information that could assist them in finding the driver of a motor car which hit a man and failed to stop on Tuesday.

The victim, a man known only as Mikey, succumbed to his injuries at hospital.

The incident took place shortly after 9 p.m. along the busy Prospect Road.

The police say Mikey, who was visually impaired, was crossing the roadway near the intersection of Prospect and John Town road, when he was hit by a speeding motor car.

Residents claim that the man was hit and his body flung into the air, before slamming to the road surface.
