The search for a Seaview Gardens, St Andrew, resident who disappeared into the murky waters of the Rio Grande in Portland on Sunday has ended with the discovery of his body.

After two days of searching for the missing 29 year old, Javon Abrahams, residents found his body floating in the river in the vicinity of Grants Level, shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Abrahams, who was accompanied by friends, went to a section of the Rio Grande Valley about 3 p.m., despite being warned by residents not to go into the water, as the river was in spate due to several days of heavy rainfall.

It is alleged that Abrahams jumped into the murky waters. According to an eyewitness, Abrahams was submerged and, upon realising that he was in trouble, an alarm was raised.

A search was launched for him on Sunday afternoon, but it was called off due to the rough conditions on the river.

On Monday, with assistance from members of  the Jamaica Defence Force and residents, the search resumed, but without success.

The body was found on Tuesday close to the river bank, where it was stuck between two rocks and debris.
