Ryland Campbell remembered as 'true Jamaican success story'
Chairman of Cari-Med Group, Glen Christian, has paid tribute to late banker and businessman Ryland Campbell, remembering him as a "true Jamaican success story".
Campbell died on Friday night at age 81.
Campbell was best known as the chairman, group president as well as co-founder of the Capital & Credit Financial Group Limited.
He also served as a director of several private companies, including pharmaceutical distributor, Cari-Med, where he served from 2004 to 2012.
Christian said Campbell played a pivotal role in the early stages of Cari-Med's development, leveraging his extensive experience in the financial sector to help the company establish a robust financial framework.
"A distinguished teacher, banker, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Ryland was a true Jamaican success story, having risen from modest beginnings to being recognised as a titan in the local financial industry," he stated.
He continued: "We remember him as an ardent nationalist who was committed to doing whatever was good for Jamaica. It was that conviction that inspired his sterling leadership of Capital & Credit, an indigenous bank which he transformed into a highly capitalised and profitable publicly traded company."
Christian said Campbell had a passion for education and its transformative power. A graduate of the Mico University College, Campbell served his alma mater in several capacities, including as chairman of the board of directors and pro-chancellor.
"Our condolences go out to his family and colleagues during this difficult time. Ryland Campbell's legacy will continue to inspire us all," Christian added.
