A Hanover man charged in connection with last month's shooting death of his Canadian girlfriend was today offered $2 million bail in the parish court.

The 52-year-old accused, Eric Collins, also known as 'Steve', is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and using a firearm to commit felony in connection with the shooting death of 52-year-old April Sheila Labine, of North York, Ontario, Canada.

Collin was granted bail following a successful application by attorney-at-law Christopher Townsend.

According to police reports, Labine, who arrived in Jamaica late last year, was at a rented apartment in Elgin Town, Lucea, with Collins when an argument developed.

The argument reportedly escalated and Labine was shot.

Police who responded to the incident the following morning found Labine's body inside the apartment with a gunshot wound to her head.

Collins later surrendered to police in Kingston and was charged.

He is to return to court on June 18.

Attorneys-at-law Danique Gooden and Danae Reid are also representing Collins.
