Each year during Child Month, Jamaica unites to celebrate Read Across Jamaica Day.

This nationally recognised initiative, championed by the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, ignites a love for reading among children across the island.

Schools come alive with storytelling sessions, author visits, and literacy-focused activities. Many corporate entities embrace the spirit of the day by volunteering their time and resources. From reading to students to donating books, these contributions create a vibrant learning environment and are a testament to the power of literacy in shaping a brighter future for Jamaica’s youth. Over the past week, The Gleaner has been highlighting several of the activities that took place on May 7. Here’s more.
