The National Water Commission (NWC) is reporting that it has been forced to regulate water supply to some Corporate Area communities due to declines at the Mona Reservoir and the Hope Water Treatment Plant.

The water rationing will take effect on Monday, June 24.

Today, Saturday, June 22, the Mona Reservoir in St Andrew is at 66.1% of its capacity or 534.8 million gallons, with the storage levels decreasing quickly, noted the NWC.

Similarly, limited inflows have been contributing to declining storage levels at the Hope Water Treatment Plant, it added.

In light of this, the NWC has been forced to implement water supply regulations as a way of managing the water supply across the network.

The communities of Mona Heights, Cross Roads, Mountain View, Old Hope Road, Hope Road, Hope Flats, Papine, Gordon Town, Beverly Hills, Ravina, Mona Road, Devon Square, Waterloo Road, and Cassia Park will get water 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

So too will the areas of Eastwood Park Road, Half-Way Tree Road, Upper Maxfield Avenue, Vineyard Town, Manley Meadows, Windward Road, Glenmore Road, South Camp Road, Franklyn Town, downtown Kingston and Harbour View.

Similarly, the communities of Hope Pastures, Mona, Liguanea, sections of Barbican, Kintyre, Gordon Town, Mona Heights, Goldsmith Villa and August Town, which are served by the Hope plant, will receive water 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

The NWC says its understands that challenges may arise as a result of the adjustments to the distribution of the supply, however, every effort is being made to manage the storage levels so that customers may have access to water supply for longer periods.

In the meantime, the commission says it will continue to monitor the Mona and Hope systems and provide updates as necessary.

Customers are also encouraged to conserve and store water during the supply periods.
