Members of the Jamaica Defence Force and the Jamaica Fire Brigade are frantically searching for 20-year-old Alrick Moncrieffe, otherwise called 'Colanji' or 'Lala', who fell in a gully and was washed away by floodwaters this afternoon in the community of Havanna, Arnett Gardens, St Andrew.

A close member of the family who asked not to be named told The Gleaner that the young man was playing football with friends when the ball fell into the gully  and he attempted to retrieve it and was washed away by floodwaters.

Moncrieffe, who is a security guard with McKay Security, worked at KFC in Cross Roads, St Andrew.

The Gleaner understands that Moncrieffe, who is a goalkeeper, at one point played for the Arnett Gardens Football Club.

The Gleaner was told that Moncrieffe stayed home today as a curfew was in place owing to the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

The young man and his friends started playing football after 4 p.m.
