Update| PM’s office clarifies purpose of additional Beryl allocation

The Office of the Prime Minister has clarified that the additional $4 million set aside for each constituency is to be used for shelter recovery, economic rehabilitation, and clearing of roads.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness had earlier stated the funds were for roof repairs following Beryl.

Holness was speaking in Parliament.

In addition to the $4 million, Holness further informed that $3 million will be given to constituencies which were hardest hit. 

An initial $5 million had been allocated to each constituency for immediate relief.

The Prime Minister also told the House that the Disaster Assistance Relief Team (DART) of the Jamaica Defence Force will be deployed to communities with extensive damage to homes. 

Holness, who is the Minister of Defence, said the personnel will help with reconstruction in Rocky Point and Portland Cottage, Clarendon,  Negril, Hanover, St Elizabeth and Manchester.
