The National Works Agency (NWA) is urging motorists to exercise extreme caution while using intersections where the traffic lights are out of service.

The agency says it is aware that several traffic signals across the island are out of commission following the passage of Hurricane Beryl last week.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says that technical teams have been out doing a comprehensive assessment of traffic signals to identify the issues.

He says that preliminary checks have so far revealed that some of the electronic components of the traffic systems were affected by heavy winds and rains associated with the hurricane.

Some signals are also out of commission as a result of issues related to the electrical power supply.

In the interim, Shaw is reminding motorists that no one has the right of way when the traffic signals are out of service, and the intersections should be used similarly to a non-signalised intersection.

As a result, all motorists should exercise due care when using these junctions/ intersections.
