Hylton, Patterson dominate rankings for best lawyers in Jamaica

The world’s leading independent rating agency for legal services, Chambers and Partners, has ranked Mike Hylton, KC (of Hylton Powell), and Trevor Patterson (of Patterson Mair Hamilton), as Jamaica’s best business litigation and non-litigation attorneys in Jamaica for another year. Both achieved the ‘Star Individual’ ranking in their respective categories.

Renowned commercial lawyer Lance Hylton (of Hylton & Hylton) joins Patterson as the only attorneys to be ranked in the Band One or higher categories consecutively since 2007, a release notes.

Mike Hylton, reached for a response, said that he was “humbled by the recognition”.

Patterson Mair Hamilton’s website notes that “Trevor has been consistently ranked over several years by Chambers and Partners as a Star Individual – General Business Law. He is considered a pre-eminent figure in commercial law”.

The Chambers Global Guide ranks the top global lawyers and law firms in over 200 jurisdictions across the world.

Their legal rankings are acknowledged as being the most thorough and independent on the market, with rankings based on the in-depth research conducted by a dedicated and experienced team of researchers working within each jurisdiction.

Rankings potentially range from Band 1 to Band 6, and the ‘Star’ ranking is given to lawyers with exceptional recommendations in their field.

A “Senior States person” ranking may be given to “a lawyer who no longer works hands-on with the same intensity but who, by virtue of close links with major clients, remains pivotal to the firm’s success”.

In Jamaica, Chambers identified 10 law firms, and 17 individual attorneys, as being among those it considers to be highly ranked, and recommended in the ‘Star’ or Bands 1 to 3 non-litigation business categories.

The Band One non-litigation rankings comprise (in order of consecutive years) Lance Hylton, Arthur Hamilton, Jerome Lee, Patrick McDonald and Hilary Reid while the Band One litigation rankings comprise Allan Wood KC, Sandra Minott-Phillips KC and M. Georgia Gibson Henlin KC.

Judy Hylton, Lance Hylton and Mike Hylton KC make it a family affair of ranked attorneys from the same family.
