Rygin King arrested in New York on gun charges

Jamaican entertainer Rygin King is facing criminal charges in New York City, in the United States, for possession of an illegal firearm, authorities there have confirmed.

The disabled dancehall artiste, whose real name is Matthew Smith, was allegedly held with a loaded nine millimetre pistol during an early morning traffic stop, a spokesperson at the 113th police precinct in Queens, New York, told The Gleaner on Thursday.

He faces four charges, including criminal possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm and ammunition in the second, third and fourth degree.

The arrest was made by members of the 113 precinct's Midnight Public Safety Team, they announced on the social media platform X, without naming the Jamaican entertainer.

A picture of the gun and ammunition allegedly taken from Rygin King was also displayed in the social media post.
