Fraser-Pryce expresses deep disappointment over absence from 100m semis at Paris Olympics

Jamaica's three-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has expressed her deep disappointment in being unable to step on the track today for the women's 100 semi-finals at the Paris Olympics.

Supporters at home and aboard were left in shock when shortly before her heat it was announced that the decorated sprinter would not be competing.

Fraser-Pryce, who has been nursing a knee injury for the 2024 season, was rumoured to have aggravated the injury during warm-ups.

Fraser-Pryce was set to clash with reigning World Champion Sha'Carri Richardson and St Lucian speedster Julien Alfred in her semi-final.

The event was won by Alfred.

In a post on her Instagram account today, Fraser-Pryce did not state the reason why she didn't compete, only saying that it is difficult for her to find the words to describe the depth of her disappointment.

“I know that my supporters share and shoulder this disappointment with me,” she wrote.

She expressed gratitude for the love and support she continues to receive.

“I am truly blessed to have had the steadfast support of my fans since my Olympic debut in 2008. The support of my fans, my country, and the larger community has rooted me in immense gratitude that has sustained me throughout my career.”

Fraser-Pryce said her faith has always affirmed her trust in her journey.

This is Fraser-Pryce's final Olympic.
