A policeman remains in hospital with multiple injuries after being mowed down by a motorist during a traffic stop along Old Hope Road in St Andrew on Thursday.

The police say counselling support is being provided by its Chaplaincy Unit to the colleagues of the injured policeman.

The driver is still being sought by the police.

It is reported that about 6:00 p.m. traffic cops were conducting an enforcement operation along the roadway when the motorist was stopped after a traffic breach was reportedly observed.

The Gleaner was informed that the driver rejected the use of body-worn cameras by the police and grabbed the policeman.

The motorist reportedly then drove off, hit the cop with the car and ran him over while speeding away.

The injured policeman was subsequently rushed to hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.
