The St Mary police are probing a double murder in Free Hill early this morning.

Killed were 48-year-old firefighter Gary Samuels and 26-year-old Barrington Clarke.

It is reported that the attack was carried out by men posing as the police.

The police report that Clarke and his common-law wife were at home when around 1:30 they heard gunshots coming from the lower floor of the two-storey dwelling.

The persons then came upstairs and shouted “police”.

Clarke reportedly proceeded to open the door and men entered the room and asked about someone.

The men then opened fire, hitting Clarke all over his body.

The attackers then fled and Clarke's common-law wife went to the downstairs dwelling where she discovered the body of Samuels, which had gunshot wounds.

An alert was raised and Clarke was rushed to the Port Maria Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A police team visited the crime scene where Samuels was found face down in his underpants.

The police say several spent shell casings and a live round were seen near his body.
