Businessman charged with fraud over failure to deliver vehicles

The police have charged a Westmoreland businessman for allegedly defrauding persons in a car buying deal.
He is 47-year-old Andre Poorman of Amity district in Savanna-la-mar in the parish who has been charged with fraudulent conversion.
Reports from the Half-Way Tree police are that in December 2021 Poorman collected over $900,000 for a 2012 Toyota Hiace bus valued at $3,500,000 from a man and then stopped communicating with him.
Since then Poorman failed to return the man's money, the police reported.
In the second incident, which took place between February and March 2023, another man reportedly paid over $1,750,000 to Poorman for a 2016 Toyota Hiace bus valued at $3,500,000.
Shortly after receiving the money, Poorman reportedly once again stopped communicating with the complainant and failed to return his money.
An investigation was launched and Poorman was later arrested and charged.
He is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Thursday, October 3.
